Hyperdome Medical Centre’s waiting area is often very busy, thanks to its loyal patient base of 30,000+. The practice has extended hours, accommodation for specialties and unique bulk billing arrangements with allied health. Our team of doctors is well supported by innovative technology and dedicated staff. Hyperdome Medical Centre uses the top clinical software – Best Practice, as well as one of the largest online health appointment booking services – HotDoc.

The practice features a long, distinct façade and is serviced by dual hallways that provide excellent circulation. Opposite to the medical centre is the unmissably fresh extension which houses Laverty Pathology.

The shopping centre

The Hyperdome Medical Centre is conveniently located in the South.Point Tuggeranong – formerly known as Hyperdome Shopping Centre. The centre is just 15 minutes’ drive from Canberra’s CBD.

The shopping centre currently contains 7 major stores (including Coles and Woolworths) as well as 183 specialist retailers, eateries and service providers over two levels. A great variety of shops, 7-day trading and late-night shopping make South.Point an attractive regular destination for its visitors.

The centre offers excellent parking with 2400 spots over three levels with one underground level. South.Point also provides 24 hour security for peace of mind.

The name Tuggeranong comes from a Ngunnawal expression meaning “cold place”. Cave paintings and Aboriginal artifacts discovered in the area confirm Tuggeranong had been inhabited by the Ngunnawal people for over 21,000 years.

Tuggeranong

The district of Tuggeranong is the southernmost town centre of Canberra and is comprised of 19 suburbs. Tuggeranong is home to 85,000 people.

Close to South.Point Tuggeranong are well-loved community spots, Tuggeranong Town Park and Lake Tuggeranong. Urambi Hills Nature Reserve to the north west offers uninterrupted, stunning vistas over Tuggeranong and towards the hills of surrounding national parks. The Murrumbidgee River, the second longest river in Australia, flows along the west of Tuggeranong with Pine Island Reserve as an idyllic recreation and relaxation spot.

Works are currently underway on upgrading Anketell Street as part of the Tuggeranong Town Centre Master Plan to revitalize the entrance of South.Point. This includes a new paved area, street furniture, a feature light and more suitable tree species.

Accessibility and infrastructure

Canberra is well laid out and easy to get around by car, bus, bicycle or on foot. The city provides convenient vehicle and bike access due to future-proofed roads and there is abundant parking. The latest transport option is the Canberra Metro light rail line, with stage-1 northwards from the CBD to Gungahlin in service now and plans for further links under consideration or soon to commence construction.

Environment

Canberra abounds with beautiful lakes and spectacular bushland with many bush walks, bike trails and wildlife reserves to explore. Canberra is known as ‘the bush capital’ of Australia. The centrepiece of Canberra is the large man-made Lake Burley Griffin, which is an ideal water playground for rowing, sailing and kayaking. Cyclists and walkers are well catered for along the 40km shoreline, with numerous parks and gardens to enjoy.

Childcare and schooling

There is a wide range of childcare, preschool, primary school and secondary school facilities in Canberra, with a variety of privately-run and Government-provided options. The A.C.T. is home to the Australian National University, which was ranked first in Australia and 24th globally in the prestigious QS World University Rankings for 2019.

Multiculturalism

Canberra is home to a population with diverse multicultural backgrounds. A recent study showed that 6% of A.C.T. residents reported speaking a language other than English at home – the most common being Italian followed by Macedonian, German, Filipino, Mandarin, and Punjabi (ABS data 2016).

A.C.T. government figures show that the biggest groups of migrants who decide to take up citizenship in the territory were from South Africa, the United Kingdom, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, China, Vietnam and the Philippines. Population Australia lists the top six countries of birth for people in Canberra as being from: Australia, England, China, India, New Zealand and Vietnam.

The Tuggeranong Walk-in Centre is located on the corner on Pitman Street, between the Tuggeranong Interchange and the Tuggeranong College and Library.

The Tuggeranong Walk-in Centre is a white and grey, two-storey building with a red tiled wall and ramp. The building is on the corner of the Pitman and Cowlishaw Streets car park and faces another carpark on Pitman Street.

The Tuggeranong Interchange is close by at the next intersection on Anketell and Pitman Streets and is a short, 1-2-minute walk from the Walk-in Centre.

Arriving by taxi

There is a taxi pick up and drop off point right outside the nearby Tuggeranong Community Health Centre entrance on Anketell Street, opposite the Southpoint Shopping Centre and the Tuggeranong Bus Interchange.

Arriving by car

The Walk-in Centre is easily accessible by car.

There are several parking options right outside the centre. Most of these are pay parking.

Free 2 hour undercover parking is available in the Southpoint shopping centre multi storey car park. The estimated walk time to the centre from these carparks is approximately 5 to 7 minutes.

The closest car park is in front of the centre, between the bus interchange and the Abode apartments and the Tuggeranong College and Library. This car park is accessible via Pitman Street and Cowlishaw Street. It is outdoor metered pay parking and is patrolled by ACT Government parking inspectors.

Parking is also available behind the Walk-in Centre which is accessible via entrances on both Cowlishaw Street and Pitman Street. There are accessible bathrooms across the hall from the Walk-in Centre waiting area, near the pathology collection area for client use. Ask us if you need help finding your way.
